The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ highest award for “dedication to diplomatic service” will now be named after Anatoly Zlenko.
This came according to a post by the Foreign Minister on Facebook, stating, “I made this decision today, and on the day he lost the first foreign minister of independent Ukraine, and the man who was dedicated to our state and its diplomacy – Anatoly Zlenko.”

Recalling the Foreign Ministry, he added, Anatoly Zlenko began his career as an attache in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Ukrainian SSR after graduating from Taras Shevchenko State University Kiev in 1967.
He then held the positions of Permanent Representative of the USSR to UNESCO (1983-1987), Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations (1994-1997), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the French Republic, and the Portuguese Republic part-time, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to UNESCO ( 1997-2000) and twice served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (1990-1994, 2000-2003).
The former Foreign Minister of Ukraine, Anatoly Zlenko, died on the 1st of March.
