The terrain of Antarctica under the ice is quite complex. Antarctica is the only continent on our planet where no major earthquakes have been recorded. In addition, Antarctica is surrounded by mobile mid-ocean ridges. More than a dozen seismic stations operate on the mainland, and observations of the earth’s crust have been observed for a long time. The first earthquake was recorded here in 1985. In Antarctica, several huge faults of the earth’s crust were discovered. One of them stretched across the Weddell Sea to the outskirts of the mainland.
