At the end of March 2007, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) held a joint environmental campaign with the Australian publication The Sydney Morning Herald. At that time, more than 2,000 firms and companies in the Australian city of Sydney, as well as more than 2.2 million residents turned off the lights temporarily for one hour. During this hour, Sydney’s energy consumption fell by more than 10%. This reduction in energy consumption has contributed, in particular, to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. Since then, this action has been called Earth Hour.
This idea has gained popularity in many countries around the world, and the conditional time of the action was 20:30 every last Saturday in March, which this year falls on the 27th.
Every year on March 27 there is a celebration of International Theater Day. This tradition was founded in 1962 in Vienna when this date was proclaimed at the IX Congress of the International Theater Institute (MIT) at UNESCO. According to the MIT charter, the holiday should be aimed at “strengthening peace and friendship between peoples, to expand the creative cooperation of all world leaders.” This date is important for all those who understand the value and importance of theatrical art and seeks to attract the attention of government agencies, politicians, and organizations that have not yet reached an understanding of the value of theater for the general and individual, and its importance for economic development.
Many countries around the world also celebrate International Whiskey Day on March 27 every year. In 2009, at the Whiskey Festival in the Northern Netherlands, this holiday was first celebrated in honor of Michael James Jackson. Michael was a journalist, critic, and author of significant works on whiskey, March 27 – the date of his birth. The purpose of International Whiskey Day is not only to raise awareness about whiskey and its delights but also to spread information about Parkinson’s disease, which Michael suffered in the last years of his life.
