Kiev. Ukraine. Ukraine Gate – March 28, 2021 – Forums and Conferences
During the meeting, the two parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Ukraine and Italy in the field of space, especially in the context of the signing on March 30, 2021, of a memorandum of understanding between STAU and the Italian Space Agency on cooperation in space for peaceful purposes.
The two parties stressed the importance of establishing a joint space project to produce the Vega, which has been implemented with the participation of Italian and Ukrainian companies since 2004.
In addition, it should be noted that in order to develop the memorandum, it is necessary to organize a joint event between the State Tax Administration and the Italian Space Agency to exchange information on activities and proposals for joint projects; It is also indicated that it is appropriate to exchange visits to get acquainted with the capabilities of the space sector institutions in the two countries.
It should be noted that in 2004, the Bevden State Design Bureau signed a contract with the Italian company Avio, under which it began to manufacture and supply engines for the Vega vehicle.
In April 2010, the transfer of serial engines to the vehicle began. In November 2017, Vega with a Ukrainian engine was successfully launched from the European Space Agency’s Kourou spaceport in French Guiana.
On September 3, 2020, another Kuru Cosmodrome vehicle was launched. According to Pivdenne, this was the 15th successful launch.
