The new synchronization tool combines all the convenient features for both business and regular users.
Google has announced future changes to Google Drive customers. The current synchronization solution for Google Drive Client (for business) and Startup and Sync (for regular users) will be replaced by the new universal Google Drive for PCs application. In the coming months, the functions of both services will be combined to increase the ease of interaction with the cloud.
According to Google, users of the Drive will receive “a powerful synchronization tool that is suitable for both personal and business purposes.” With the launch of Computer Drive, the best and most commonly used features will be available in one simple application. For example, the ability to sync individual files for offline use, sync local folders, auto-upload photos and videos directly to Google Photos, download from USB devices, dark theme, and use multiple accounts at the same time will appear for everyone.
Currently, only the first step of the rebranding process has been implemented – starting with version 45 (update from January 11, 2021) “Google Drive Client” on Windows and macOS has changed its name to “Google Drive for Computers”. Later this year, part of the functions of the client “Autoload and synchronization” will be transferred to it. The transition will happen automatically and will not affect the user files, so there is nothing to worry about.
Instructions for upgrading to Google Drive will be published closer to the release. The exact date has not been announced. Google Workspace administrators can sign up for the beta and try the innovations now. You need to send the data of your organization in a special form.
