You plan to sow sunflowers in the 2021 season – then this information is for you. Because this culture has certain features of optimal nutrition, in addition to the standard NPK, according to the “Institute of Plant Health”, and they should be considered if you want to get a bountiful harvest.
“Magnesium is also extremely important for the crop, as its deficiency reduces the weight of thousands of seeds. However, it is worth paying attention to its relationship with potassium, as the elements can interfere with each other’s assimilation. The need for sunflower for sulfur is three times greater than that of cereals: its growth inhibits the growth and development of the plant. The development of the aboveground part and the root system is also influenced by the supply of calcium to the culture: its deficiency delays the growth of leaves, their chloroticity is observed, they may die, ”advises Serhiy Salnikov, a researcher at the Institute.
Regarding trace elements, Serhiy emphasizes the need for sunflower in boron, manganese, molybdenum, iron, copper, and zinc. With boron deficiency, sunflower develops more slowly, baskets are deformed, achenes are not filled, and there is a decrease in yield. In the absence of manganese, the stem is formed thinner and weaker, chlorosis appears on the leaves, and molybdenum – interveinal chlorosis appears on the young leaves.
Iron deficiency causes disruption of photosynthesis; visually it is manifested in the yellowing of young leaves. An insufficient copper supply, although the crop needs it in small quantities, can lead to seedling death, as this element is responsible for stress resistance, is involved in respiration, protein accumulation, nitrogen fixation, and a number of other vital processes.
As for zinc, it is important for growth processes; its deficiency disrupts nitrogen metabolism and protein synthesis, reduces the resistance of plants to various stresses.
According to scientific data, the formation of 1 ton of sunflower products requires N-55 kg, P-24 kg, KO2-110 kg, Ca-60 kg, MgO-20 kg, S-30 kg, Fe-88 g, Mn- 60 g, Zn-50 g, B-65 g, Cu-12 g, Mo-0.5 g.
In addition, the availability of nutrients should be taken into account, which can be influenced by various factors, such as soil pH, humidity, organic matter content, and other indicators. So choose a comprehensive study of the soil of sunflower fields.
