Again, Corona changes conditions and forces the world to meet from afar virtually without touching, which is what happened with the participants in the “special session” of the Munich Security Conference on February 19, in which the President of the United States, Joe Biden, France Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of Germany Angela Merkel and the British Boris Johnson participate in its session.
Today’s session, which will start at 16:00 (CET), will be attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Charles Michel, and WHO President Tedros Adhanom. Jabris, USA John Kerry and Bill Gates.
The session will be held under the title “Beyond the West: Renewal of Transatlantic Cooperation, Meeting Global Challenges”.
In this context, the organizers emphasized that this session is not a substitute for the Munich Security Conference, which they hope to organize through a physical presence as soon as the epidemiological situation permits.
Until then, MSC plans to hold a series of events and initiatives called “The Road to Munich 2021”, they added.
Organizers said that “stops” on this path will include high-level virtual events on key aspects of the Transatlantic Partnership, as well as interactive seminars and discussions to prepare the ground for the “physical” MSC 2021.
It is worth noting that last December, it was announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 57th Munich Security Conference would not take place on schedule, for the first time in half a century.
