Sixteen of the first African women congratulated Deputy Dr. Rasha Qalaj, to the Merck International Charitable Foundation for choosing her on the list of 100 appointees in the Egyptian Senate. They also congratulated her for her entry into the list of the most influential African women in the world for the year 2020, which is the third time that Qalaj has won this title. This came during videoconferencing that discussed an initiative that includes first ladies to Africa with the aim of exchanging experiences and discussing the global challenges caused by the Coronavirus, and identifying solutions to further enhance the capacity of health care to confront this global epidemic in Africa.
The first ladies commended the active and serious role of “Qalj” in developing social and media care in Africa and made it clear that they were fully prepared to support its development, media, and artistic initiatives in the African continent. The First Ladies praised Qalg’s success over the past year in launching development programs for the public health sector, training more than 800 doctors remotely, as well as awareness-raising to prevent the emerging coronavirus, as well as implementing distinguished programs to empower African women and combat the stigma of sterility prevalent in the continent.
The meetings were witnessed by Oxelia Minagua, First Lady of Zimbabwe; Dr. Esther Longo, First Lady of Zambia; Dr. Fatma Mada Bio, First Lady of Sierra Leone; Dr. Asata Mahamadou, First Lady of Niger; Dr. Monica Gingus, First Lady of Namibia; Dr. Isairo Naiusi, First Lady of Mozambique; Dr. Monica Chakwira, First Lady of Malawi; Dr. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, First Lady of Ghana; Fatumat Bhabarwa, First Lady of The Gambia; Dr. Brigitte Touadera, First Lady of the Central African Republic; Dr. Mrs. Angeline Ndayishimi, First Lady of Burundi; Dr. New Jean Masese, First Lady of Botswana; Dr. Anna Dias Lorenao, First Lady of Angola.
It was agreed on the date of the next meeting next April to supervise the next phase of development programs in various African countries.
For her part, Qalaj said: “I am very proud of our valuable partnership with the African First Ladies and the Ministries of Health, Education, Culture and Information, as their presence gave a strong impetus to work quickly and implement various initiatives.”

It is working hard to prepare proposals for various cooperative projects between Egypt and the rest of African countries in various areas of development that are profitable for each of the two parties, based on the strong pioneering role of the Egyptian state in Africa, which is the main catalyst for the success of these proposals in the near and distant future, in addition to The vast experience it has acquired on our continent through successful development programs that she has established and managed herself through the Merck International Foundation, which she has chaired since 2012.
